Overall rating

  1. Add food and water
    • Put your ingredients in the cooker.
    • Always add enough liquid (usually at least 1 cup or as your recipe recommends). Never use a pressure cooker without liquid.
  2. Close the lid
    • Make sure the rubber gasket is fitted correctly.
    • Lock the lid securely.
  3. Place the pressure regulator (weight/whistle)
    • Put the whistle on the steam vent if your cooker uses one.
  4. Heat the cooker
    • Turn the stove to medium-high heat.
    • Wait until steam starts escaping and the whistle begins working.
  5. Cook for the required time
    • Count whistles if your recipe uses them, or cook for the specified number of minutes.
    • Reduce the heat to low after pressure is reached unless the recipe says otherwise.
  6. Turn off the heat
    • When cooking is done, switch off the stove.
  7. Release pressure safely
    • Let the pressure drop naturally, or follow your recipe for quick release.
    • Never force the lid open while pressure remains.
  8. Open the lid
    • Once the safety lock releases and there is no pressure, open the lid away from your face to avoid hot steam.

  • Don't fill the cooker more than 2/3 full (or 1/2 full for foods like rice, beans, or lentils that expand).
  • Check that the steam vent is not blocked.
  • Replace worn rubber gaskets.
  • Never open the cooker until all pressure is released.
